The Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center

Leever Cancer Center Mask Use Update

Mandatory masking was instituted in 2020 to decrease the risk of transmission of COVID-19. The COVID-19 transmission rate throughout Connecticut has dropped to a “moderate” level, allowing for a change in the requirements for mask-wearing.

Effective Monday, 5/01/2023, until further notice, the PPE-Mask Use Policy for HLRCC has been updated as follows:

  • General Areas: Masks are encouraged but not required in common areas including the lobby, library, and waiting areas.
  • Patient Care Areas: Masks are required in all patient care areas, including exam rooms, treatment rooms, the PET/CT department, and CT Simulation.
  • Patients:
    • All patients must wear masks in treatment care areas. If you do not bring a mask, we will provide you with one. Bandanas and neck-style gaiters are not allowed.
    • Any visitors in the building must wear masks in treatment areas.
    • Children are not encouraged to be in the building; if allowed into a treatment area, they must wear masks.
    • Delivery persons are not required to wear masks.
  • Staff:
    • Mask use is optional in all areas of HLRCC not designated for patient use.
    • Staff may continue to mask as a personal choice in these areas.
