“If there was a positive to come from my experience with breast cancer, it would be to make HDR Partial Breast Therapy local for all women in greater Waterbury.” -Patsey Demsey, Co-Chair, Generations of Hope for The Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center HDR Fund
When Patsey Demsey learned she had breast cancer, she also learned that she qualified for a different type of radiation therapy – one that abbreviated treatment from up to 6 weeks of daily radiation to just five consecutive days with two treatments daily. HDR therapy wasn’t available locally so she had to travel for treatment which was far enough away that a trip home between doses wasn’t possible.
Therapy complete, positive prognosis in hand, Patsey and her daughter Kim together championed the Generations of Hope Campaign to bring HDR partial breast therapy to the world class cancer care at The Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center. Eight women who have all experienced HDR partial breast therapy also joined the Campaign efforts as HDR Ambassadors – all in an effort to give eligible breast cancer patients a treatment opportunity locally.
Thank you, due to the generosity of our donors,
we are now able to offer HDR therapy to our community.
